The project of "Marine carbon storage mechanism and regional carbon-nitrogen-sulfur cycle coupling response to global climate change" undertaken by academician Xie Shucheng, leader of our geo-biology team, has successfully passed the comprehensive performance evaluation of the Ministry of Science and Technology and was rated excellent. This is a national key R&D project on "global climate change and response" undertaken by CUG together with Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shandong University, the Second Institute of Oceanography led by Ministry of Natural Resources, Xiamen University and Tongji University during the 13th Five Year Plan period.
This is another national major project after academician Xie Shucheng completed the 973 program as a chief scientist. It witnessed the transformational development of our geo-biology team from paleontology. While developing the core field in geo-biology: geological microorganisms, they actively expand other fields in marine sciences and atmospheric sciences. The 111 Plan presided over by Xie Shucheng was rated excellent in 2019 and selected into the 111 Plan 2.0. Two key projects of NSFC in his charge were also rated excellent. At present, he is presiding over a third project. The major projects of Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Education and the National Natural Science Foundation (China) in his charge have made remarkable achievements, laying solid foundation for the sustainable development in geo-biology.
