Professor Dr. Shukui Zhu is a Professor of Analytical Chemistry & Environmental Science at the State Key Laboratory of Biogeology and Environmental Geology, China University of Geosciences. He received his B.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry in 1995 from Lanzhou University and Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry in 2006 from Wuhan University. Then he joined the department of chemistry at Huazhong Agricultural University and began his independent research career. From late 2009 to early 2011, he worked as a visiting professor in the department of environmental science, policy & management at UC Berkeley. His research focuses on developing ultra-sensitive assays for compounds in environmental samples, geological samples and other complex samples. He is interested in novel sample preparation techniques for the efficient enrichment of trace analytes (such as solid phase extraction based on magnetic nanocomposites and functional polymers), methodology of gas or liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, determination and health relevance of emerging pollutants, pollution remediation based on advanced oxidation process (AOP) and mechanism. He has published over 40 manuscripts and book chapters on emerging contaminant analysis, pollution remediation, and biomarker discovery etc.
